Sydney Magennis
We are thrilled to announce Sydney Magennis as a 2024 grantee of the Dr. Alina Olteanu Foundation! Sydney has shown extraordinary resilience and dedication through her passion for Irish dance, which she has pursued since the age of seven.
From her very first class, Sydney found a connection with Irish dance that would shape her journey, leading her to both local and regional competitions. Throughout her experiences, she has faced victories and setbacks alike, but her unwavering love for dance and her commitment to hard work have been constant. Her essay eloquently reflects her journey and the profound life lessons she has gained from her art form:
“What my parents thought would be a unique cultural hobby sparked an artistic passion that I will have for life. Most importantly, within my failures, I found that my passion doesn’t lie in a win but for the sheer love and joy of the discipline itself.”
Sydney’s dedication to her craft has influenced her academic pursuits as well, fostering a strong work ethic that has propelled her to success in her studies. As she prepares to enter Texas State University, Sydney’s dream of pursuing higher education is tempered by financial challenges. As a Canadian citizen in the U.S., she has limited access to scholarships typically available to American students. With this grant from the Dr. Alina Olteanu Foundation, she will be able to pursue her educational goals with less worry about financial constraints.
